Marjan Raar is a contemporary dancer and choreographer from the Netherlands. After graduating from the Modern Dance Department of the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam, she relocated to Turku, Finland, where she became a founding member of Barker-Theatre. Her choreographic work, shown across Europe, is known for its fluent, organic movement language and strong narrative foundation.

For many years she has been working with live music. Many well known musicians in Finland and abroad have been participating in her pieces. Also visual artists, actors and new circus artists have been joining her choreographies.

She works with freelance dancers, some of them returning regularly in her productions. Nowadays she even works as a mentor for young dancers and choreographers, and find that very inspiring and rewarding.

She receives grants from Svenska Kulturfonden, Konstsamfundet, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and others for her work.

In November 2024 she received an award of honour from the Western Regional dance center, and was awarded with the official Finnish reward for 35 years of working in the dance field in Finland.
